1. Since I won this flashlight and had nothing to lose I took this light out for a drive to a concert. The venue was about an hour away and I left the flashlight on (the three bulbs) the entire way up. My girlfriend, who was navigating, used it the entire way there to see the handwritten directions. I left the flashlight on during the concert for a total of about 5 hours. When we came back to the car the light was dim but with hand cranking, as the directions specified, the light came back to life. I plan on buying these for my relatives as gifts.

2. Finally a useful gadget that really works!! The light is really bright and we never have to worry about whether or not the batteries will be dead.

A brighter light than i expected. frankly, i wouldn’t be able to tell the difference between this and a regular battery powered flashlight of similar size based on the light amount. turning the crank handle is easy enough for pretty much anybody even for little kids or if you have bad arthritis. the finish is actually really nice, feels really well made, has the build quality of something a lot more expensive than it is. might have preferred more of a rubberized (non-slip) surface, but not a big deal. highly recommended to keep around as an emergency if you aren’t using a flashlight too often. better than keeping spare D batteries around (this flashlight is probably cheaper than a few sets of D’s btw) or keeping the batteries in a regular flashlight and worrying about battery leakage. don’t know about longevity yet since i got it recently.

1. I purchased this flashlight for emergencies. Haven’t had one yet but it’s seen a lot of causual use. It’s great not having to worry about changing batteries. Turning the crank is quite easy. You get many minutes of light after ten or so seconds of cranking. Also, if the flashlight is turned off after cranking it holds a charge for quite a while.
I liked it so much that I bought a second one, which now has a slightly different design. Unlike some reviewers, I prefer the new design. The crank is even easier to turn. When you first press the on button the 3 leds come on as before, but now the second click of the on button reduces it to one led, while the third click turns it back off. The new “one led” option allows the light to stay on longer, for the same amount of crankng. It is good for times when you don’t need a bright light.
2. This past Wednesday, the Southern Tier of New York State and Northern PA experienced major flooding, the worst this area has ever seen. We were one of the lucky ones. Our home sustained absolutely no damage, but we were without electricity for over 3 days. My husband just got this flashlight as a birthday present the Saturday before the floods. This proved to be very handy. The light is bright and it illuminates for quite a distance. Also, the LED light is truer for color. When our other rechargables were used up, this one was still going strong. I plan on buying several more, one for each vehicle and three more for the house. I will never be without it.

One reviewer questioned if these really work… YES they do! I had a new furnace installed recently, and the installers made a mistake. Without detectors in the house I might never have known, and my family could have suffered greatly (ie somebody could have become ill or even died!). We had had them for years and they ALWAYS read 0. When we started seeing it detect CO we knew we had a problem. Occasional low readings (such as near your kitchen on Thanksgiving if you have a gas stove) are ok, but any consistant reading is cause for real concern particularly if it is away from any known source of CO (stove, fireplace, etc).
This product is a must have with its digital display that detects even low-level carbon monoxide levels that over time can cause severe long-term health problems.
