Customer feedback:

1. A couple of things I found by using this device:
– the entertainment center costs me $11 a year to have just sit there in standby mode. This is a 32″ LCD TV, surroundsound system, DVD player, Wii, and subwoofer all plugged into a Monster HTS 1000 MKIII PowerCenter with Clean Power Stage 2 (8 AC outlet, 2 coax, phone & network). If I watch a DVD or play the Wii, it costs me 40 cents a day, or about 3.33 cents an hour.
– My gaming computer (Dual Core, 500 watt power supply and 19″ LCD) cost me $99 a year to run 24 hours a day, 6 days a week. That includes the occasional laser printing and occasional 2.1 speaker usage. So I turn it off more often.
– Cell phone charger: .86 cents a year, but when charging it costs me $1.73 a year.
– New coffee pot costs me between 5-7 cents to brew a pot of coffee and let it sit for a couple hours.
– Toaster at 350-degrees costs me about 11 cents an hour.
– Dell laptop charger costs me about $1.70 a year to keep it plugged in. It’s about a penny and hour to charge the laptop’s battery.
– NOAA handheld weather radio costs 86 cents a year to run 24/7

2. I currently own two Kill-a-Watt P4460 meters. This usage meter has a memory hold over, so I can use these at circuits that are switched on and off. When the incoming electricity is shut off, the previous hours of use are kept in memory. When the electricity is turned back on, the meter will continue from where it left off. The older P4400 model does not have this hold over circuit. The P4460 is a great addition to the P4400 for studying home electical usage.

This unit has 3 functions that people do not really understand surge protection, timer and measure what you spend on electrical items. The Surge Protector- most surge protectors protect only for high vol but this one protects against high and low. This fully loaded surge protector doesn’t just guard your electrical devices from voltage spikes. It also provides protection against over current, over voltage, and under voltage delivering clean safe power to your expensive equipment.

Customer feedback:

1. This is a great product and definitely lives up to its product description. The unit has a solid feel and I don’t have the impression that it is a low quality product. Temperature readings are quick and accurate as far as I can tell. It provides many uses such as confirming the temperature of foods to finding heat sources in your home. It has helped me pinpoint the areas in my house that I am losing precious air-conditioning.

2. I bought it because of the low price & was surprised to find it works just as well as more expensive Fluke thermometers I’ve used in the past. It works quickly, has a good distance to spot ratio and it’s priced just right. I’ve used it for everything from spot temp checks of computer equipment to checking my freezer & my ceiling insulation coverage. I would buy the same one again if it were lost or broken.

Black & Decker TLD100 Thermal Leak Detector

The Black & Decker Thermal Leak Detector helps you increase the efficiency of your home’s insulation by finding weak areas that can lead to higher heating and cooling bills. You’ll instantly identify problem areas around drafty windows and doors, and uncover hidden leaks and insulation “soft spots” around your home. Check windows, ducts, and walls with the thermal reference light that indicates hot and cold spots. You can even use the detector to diagnose engine misfires or check your refrigerator and freezer settings.
The Thermal Leak Detector makes it easy to monitor your home’s energy efficiency by finding areas that let heat out and cold air in. Simply set the detector’s temperature tolerances to one, five, or 10 degrees and scan the light across the area you want to inspect. The light will change to red for warmer spots and blue for cooler spots to detect air leaks in both warm and cool weather. The detector also displays temperatures in either Fahrenheit or Celsius on the LCD screen. Check for drafts or leaks around your fireplace, recessed lighting, electrical outlets, along floor molding, or any place that may have improper seals, caulking, or seams that aren’t immediately visible. An included booklet gives you tips and instructions on how to seal leaks and improve insulation.

Technical Details:
Uses infrared sensors to measure surface temperatures
Helps homeowners track down power-draining drafts
Sold with a 5 step guide to fixing basic energy leaks comes with the thermal leak detector, offering guidance on everything from caulking to weatherproofing windows and doors
Plugging leaks can save up to 20-Percent on heating and cooling costs!

Customer feedback:

1. This is a big improvement over the regular thermal detectors (I have a Craftsman I was given as a gift already). Instead of trying to keep looking at the ever-changing digital readout – this tool allows you to look right at where you are pointing it to see the changes in hot or cold. Fun and much easier to use than the regular variety.

2. Even if you are an unfortunate non-tech “regular” person. Man, what fun to aim and read this dandy little hand-held temperature detector. This device reads the temperature difference between a “reference point” and wherever else it is pointed around the house (probably only from the inside!). The trick here is to see where temperatures are somewhat lower than the reference point. The reference point, by the way, should be some wall or surface that you suspect is kind of the “average” temperature of the house. This means that the home owner can more easily track down places where cold outdoor air could be leaking in, or where the insulation does not stop heat losses like they should. Leaks almost certainly will be the big heat loss killers (or heat gain into an air conditioned space inside in the summer).
