It’s lighter, easier to load, easier to pour, easier to clean, perks ultra-fast and makes a great, hot cup of coffee. Because of its lighter stainless steel pot, it cools down faster if you want to make a second batch of coffee right away. I’ve used every type of coffee maker around. I look for all stainless- that means NO plastic or aluminum contacting the water—-this has been a great product for me–I love perked coffee. When I’m not using this I use a Cona glass vacuum maker— I’m a purist about materials and coffee making. Presto has been the most reliable of all my electric percs. It’s all stainless.

Every family in Italy owns one of these machines. Here are a few tips:

1. In Italy this is NOT called an espresso machine, but a Moka machine. An espresso is what you would drink in bar made with a steam or high pressure machine with the crema on top.
2. Smaller size Moka machine tend to make better coffee.
3. Never wash the Moka with detergents, just rinse it under tap water
4. You’ve gotta use it often for a good coffee.
5. If you haven’t use it in a while, make a weak coffee (“lungo”) and discard
6. DO NOT put the MOka in the dishwasher.
7. Use drinking water. Avoid tap water especially if very chlorinated
8. Never compress the coffee.
9. For a strong coffee fill the filter with ground coffee and make a small cupola that slightly protrudes beyond the rim. Do not press down.
10. For best coffee, heat at very low heat. It’s ok if it takes 10min.
11. As soon as coffee reaches the top, remove from heat.
12. Do not let the coffee boil.
13. Use good quality coffee, not too strong, medium grind.
14. Sip while still hot, enjoy!

I finally discovered how to make the perfect cappuccino at home. This makes a cappuccino exactly how I would get it at my neighborhood coffee bar. The machine makes a dense rich espresso with a nice cream on top and the aeroccino makes a perfect thick foam. The aeroccino also heats the milk to the perfect temperature and clean up is super quick. The machine is little in size which is a plus in a tiny Italian kitchen. At first I wasn’t so convinced on being committed to buying only Nespresso capsules, first for the price and second for the quality of coffee.

This coffee maker purchasing was beginning to be a regular thing for us so the line of thought was purchase a cheap one and replace it. So that is what we did but its costly doing that too. Buy a new machine in Jan. then June then again around Christmas time, that’s $150 right there! I remember thinking the last time; we should buy two so when it breaks we have a backup.
So anyway, we have the BUNN NHBX. The experience setting this machine up was unlike any other coffee machine in the past. I actually had to follow directions, 5 simple steps but IMPORTANT STEPS. It’s not like you just plug this machine in and go, 3 minutes later – drink coffee. It does require some initial setup, approximately 20-30 minutes from opening the box. Bunn includes a quick setup guide in addition to a nice manual and a deliming tool. Adding 3 pots of water to the machine seemed odd at first not fully understanding the hot water reservoir design.
This machine makes the best tasting pot of coffee of all the machines I owned in the past. It’s also the hottest pot! The warmer plate seems unnecessary. This machine made coffee as quick as 2 min 35 secs up to 3 mins.
