This is a BRIGHT unit. With a bit of effort, I could actually see the beam in the sky from my front porch, in town, with a 100 watt halogen porch light glowing directly over my head and two more 100 watt halogen lights nearby. In a darkened area suitable for astronomy this is going to be awesome.
I tried it inside on surfaces approximating the reflectivity of projection screens and office walls where people aim projectors. Long story short: it’s too bright for use as a presentation pointer, just like others have said.
One small quirk, perfectly harmless. The batteries go in “backwards” from usual convention…negative side upwards. No biggie, but since it doesn’t say anywhere on the pointer or on its instructions which way the batteries go, I can see someone putting them in “the right way” and deciding their pointer is defective.
In summary, a good outdoor pointer.

Here is a tip for Keynote users on the Mac. The remote is set up with non-programmable buttons, so the F5 button (designed for PowerPoint) doesn’t work for starting your Keynote presentations…but it can. The trick is to change the keyboard shortcut in Keynote for Play Slideshow from cmd-option-P to F5. On Mac OS X v10.4+ you can go to System Preferences > Keyboard & Mouse and then the Keyboard Shortcuts tab.

The new Kensington Wireless presenter was great. I am a Technology Coordinator at a K-8 school and used it during a parent/student ribbon pinning ceremony. It worked great and had great range. It allowed me to stay out of the way and just go from baby picture to baby picture without me obstructing the parents’ view of the baby pictures. I highly recommend the product. Kensington also has another wireless presenter that includes memory in the receiver. Both models are great. I especially liked the fact that the Kensington K72353US has a green laser which shows up better against the light from my LCD projectors and it comes with a case for it. The Presenter has an on/off switch so the case insures that the power won’t go on until needed.
