Keyspan Presentation Remote Pro

Customer feedback:

1. Do you need a remote for controlling slide shows and other presentations on your Mac, but you don’t have a newer Mac that came with an Apple remote? Do you have an Apple remote for your computer, but it doesn’t have enough features for your needs? If you answered yes to either of these questions, the Keyspan Presentation Remote Pro might be what you are looking for. The Presentation Remote Pro is packed full of features. The most important feature being that it will control your presentations. It controls Powerpoint presentations, Keynote presentation, iPhoto slideshows, Quicktime slideshows, and it even controls switching tracks in iTunes (I had to try, and it worked!). In addition to controlling the visual part of the presentation, it also has volume control buttons to remotely control the audio part of your presentation.
For those who want to point out details on a presentation from a distance, it has a laser pointer. You can even black out the screen with the push of one button on the remote. Those features alone would make this a great presentation remote. However, the remote is also a mouse (in a matter of speaking)! The top of the remote has two buttons that coincide with the left and right buttons on a mouse. There is also a mouse button, similar to those on some laptops, that will control your pointer on the screen. On the side of the unit is another button that acts like a scroll wheel. Using the remote to control the mouse was actually easier than I expected.

2. I’m fairly happy with this nice little product. The price was great, too. I’ve used for about two weeks now, and on a variety of computers. Every time, without fail, it starts right up without needing drivers or administrative access. It only takes about 5 seconds, and doesn’t even prompt me. The response on the mouse control stick is good, but very sensitive. If you are using it to press buttons or manipulate pull-down menus, you better have good thumb-eye coordination.
The remote control works fairly far away… at least 20 feet so far, and probably farther. I haven’t had any issues with that thus far. The on/off switch on the side is a nice touch, as is the bright laser pointer. And I really like how the USB dongle slides into the controller when you travel. In all, this is a great product and does exactly what it’s supposed to d in a very good way. And the price could not be beat.

Customer feedback:

1. The USB transmitter that plugs into the computer is nearly half the size in the new version, which is nice, given the bulky size of the previous version.
The device now runs on AAA batteries instead of a smaller, disc-type battery. This is nice, since you had to go to a store to pick up replacement batteries for the old version.

2. I’ve compared about 5 or 6 presenters in actual use for a corporate application. All work well and get the job done. This one worked flawlessly — plugs in, recognized by pc, and buttons are working immediately. The functionality is limited to 4 buttons though and a laser, which is fine for basic needs. If that’s all you need (forward, back, stop, laser), then this is a good choice. I prefer the Logitech for the added convenience of having a volume control and timer, but if those features aren’t important, this is an equally good unit.

- Customer feedback:

1. I have been using the Logitech Cordless 2.4 GHz Presenter for about three weeks. During that time I have used it in 18 one hour lectures. The presenter does everything it was designed to do effortlessly. I decided on the Logitech Presenter for a two reasons. First, it installs with no software. Just plug the USB radio transmitter/receiver into the back of your computer and it is ready to go. During my initial installation Windows XP said there was a problem, but everything operated just fine. Second, this presenter has a limited number of functions. It was my view that when giving a lecture the last thing you need is to have to hunt among a dozen or so buttons to do something. Also, more buttons increases the likelihood of hitting the wrong one. On the top the Logitech Presenter has 5 buttons: 1) forward, 2) back, 3) laser pointer which is between the forward and back, 4) F5/ESC which starts PowerPoint at the first slide or returns to the work view and 5) black the screen. All of the buttons are conveniently placed, work as promised and are easy to find without looking at them. On the left side is the on/off switch and volume control and on the right side is the button to set the countdown timer. The timer starts vibrating at set intervals 5 minutes before it reaches 0. It appears to use batteries sparingly. After about 18 hours of use the battery meter has yet to move.
There are two possible negatives to the Logitech Cordless 2.4 GHz Presenter. First, it has no mouse (I actually consider this a positive). So if you need to use a mouse in your presentations this is not the presenter to get. Second, it only appears to work with PowerPoint. It may work with other programs, but I have found no mention of it.

2. I purchased this about two weeks ago, and have already used it several times. I’m just wrapping up my graduate education, and wish I knew about this sooner. If you present in teams, and usually have someone controlling the slides, you know how its difficult to sync your presentation with the other person. The Logitech Presenter puts the control into your hands. This also allows you to step away from the computer, and focus on the actual presentation than changing the slides.

This unit does the following:
- start presentation/exit presentation
- black out the screen (good for when you want to have people focus their attention on you instead of the slides)
- forward/back, to navigate through slides
- volume control
- laser pointer
- time limit notification (warnings at 5 mins and 2 mins)
- Also comes with a compact fabric case.

Worx GT WG150 10-Inch 18-Volt Cordless Electric String Trimmer/Edger

The WORX GT is the perfect tool to neatly manicure your yard after you mow. It even won the prestigious Editor’s Choice award from Popular Mechanics Magazine at the 2006 Lawn and Garden Show. The lightweight WORX 18-volt battery-powered string trimmer weighs less than a gallon of milk and is the only trimmer on the market which converts from a standard grass trimmer to a true walk-behind edger – 2 tools in 1. The integrated Edger wheel allows you to quickly and easily roll the trimmer along your patio or driveway for adding that perfectly edged look to your yard or garden.
And forget the hassle of pull starters – the WORX GT starts with the single push of a button. Forget the aggravation of untangling extension cords – the 18-volt battery-powered WORX GT can trim up to a 1/2 acre yard on a single charge. It goes anywhere you need to. And unlike some competitive cordless models, the WORX GT comes with a 1-hour quick charger so you don’t have to wait for hours for the battery to re-charge…you’re back to work in minutes not hours. The unique trimming head of WORX GT pivots up to 90-degrees to reach under decks, under play equipment, under trees and bushes or on slopes and hills.

Worx GT WG150 10-Inch 18-Volt Cordless Electric String Trimmer/Edger

Technical Details

* 10-inch electric line trimmer with a hardy 18-volt battery
* 100% automatic line feed for best cutting performance
* Telescopic shaft adjusts to user’s height and posture; rotating handle
* Includes 18-volt battery pack and charger, 16-foot spool trimmer line
* 2-year manufacturer’s warranty

Customer feedback:

1. I got this to replace a 2001 American Gardner 18 volt cordless trimmer that finally would no longer hold a charge. The Worx has much improved ergonimics, the handles, telescoping shaft, adjustable head angle and light weight are nice. However it lacks the power of the American Gardner, it is unable to cut through as heavy a growth and the string that comes with it is crap. The auto feeder jammed several times the first time I used it and the line would not cut well compared to the 5 sided Shakespeare .65 line I had been using when rewinding my spools on the American Gardner trimmer. So I unwound the Worx spool and replaced their line with the Shakespeare line. The result was much improved cutting. I recommend this to everyone.

2. Strengths:
- electric cordelss (a requirement for me)= no mess/fuss & low noise
- lightweight
- adjustable trim head is very handy – I’ve never seen this on a line trimmer before. I like it a lot.
- durable – seems like a solid design.
- easily swapped batteries. Inexpensive battery replacement.

Weaknesses:
- not as powerful as their ads led me to believe. I’ve used a Craftsman 10 in. Electric Weedwacker for the past two years which uses a powerful 24 volt battery system. This trimmer uses an 18 volt. I’m not sure if that’s what makes the Craftsman more powerful but something does. The Worx does fine with grass, but I don’t think it would work well with anything heavier…
- so so as an edger. Not really powerful enough to dig the edge – but it will trim it and the wheels actually make it work fairly well for this.
- advertise how great the auto feed system is. Mine often required me to take off the bottom and manually feed it. The spool did seem to be poorly rolled so maybe I had a non-typical problem. Seems like it worked ok when the line didn’ get caught up inside.
