1. This was just what I was looking for to give my mother in case of a power outage. She would not be at all comfortable using a fuel powered lantern and I did not want to give her something that required batteries. This way she only needs to recharge the lantern twice a year unless she has occasion to use it and it should be ready to go in case the power goes out. I was very please with the amount of light the lantern gave off. I’m seriously considering getting one for myself, although I already have 2 fuel lanterns.
2. We’ve used this several times since buying a couple of years ago. The amount of light it gives off is incredible, and it lasts pretty much as long as they say it will. It’s not light though - the battery is fairly sizable and I think it may be lead-acid - not sure.

1. Not the brightest lantern around, but bright enough for emergencies. It takes alkaline or rechargeable AA’s (3), and they can be recharged in the unit. Haven’t tried the crank. Surprisingly good radio. Seems sturdy. I’m going to buy more to keep around the house for power outages.

1. Ok, I was reading reviews of other products from Kaito. I had my misgivings, but for the price I figured oh what the heck. Let’s get it and try it. Well it works great! Light is really nice and the radio works great. Can’t go wrong for the price. Funny thing is it arrived the day that we had a black out and had to use it right away. Perfect timing!
2. The flash light is awesome. It’s bright and easy to charge. It’s much better than the shake flash lights b/c it’s easier and takes much less effort to charge it up.

1. I’ve used this in a cabin in NH and during a few hour blackout at home. The light is too diffuse to read to, but it does the job to generally illuminate an area to keep you from bumping into walls or trip over a log. The radio works well, but it drains the power fast for some reason. The extras are neat too, like the siren and flashing lights and the ports to plug in cell phones. Well worth the cost.
2. After receiving this item I purchased another one I liked it so much. The handle is easy to crank and it runs for a long time on just a minute of hand crank charging. The handle is much better on this model than older ones. It is easy to turn and the overall design is better. We recently used the lantern during storms we had and it was well worth the money in not having to worry about being without a radio, light or trying to find batteries.

A brighter light than i expected. frankly, i wouldn’t be able to tell the difference between this and a regular battery powered flashlight of similar size based on the light amount. turning the crank handle is easy enough for pretty much anybody even for little kids or if you have bad arthritis. the finish is actually really nice, feels really well made, has the build quality of something a lot more expensive than it is. might have preferred more of a rubberized (non-slip) surface, but not a big deal. highly recommended to keep around as an emergency if you aren’t using a flashlight too often. better than keeping spare D batteries around (this flashlight is probably cheaper than a few sets of D’s btw) or keeping the batteries in a regular flashlight and worrying about battery leakage. don’t know about longevity yet since i got it recently.

1. I purchased this flashlight for emergencies. Haven’t had one yet but it’s seen a lot of causual use. It’s great not having to worry about changing batteries. Turning the crank is quite easy. You get many minutes of light after ten or so seconds of cranking. Also, if the flashlight is turned off after cranking it holds a charge for quite a while.
I liked it so much that I bought a second one, which now has a slightly different design. Unlike some reviewers, I prefer the new design. The crank is even easier to turn. When you first press the on button the 3 leds come on as before, but now the second click of the on button reduces it to one led, while the third click turns it back off. The new “one led” option allows the light to stay on longer, for the same amount of crankng. It is good for times when you don’t need a bright light.
2. This past Wednesday, the Southern Tier of New York State and Northern PA experienced major flooding, the worst this area has ever seen. We were one of the lucky ones. Our home sustained absolutely no damage, but we were without electricity for over 3 days. My husband just got this flashlight as a birthday present the Saturday before the floods. This proved to be very handy. The light is bright and it illuminates for quite a distance. Also, the LED light is truer for color. When our other rechargables were used up, this one was still going strong. I plan on buying several more, one for each vehicle and three more for the house. I will never be without it.
