1. I haven’t had the chance to conpare this unit to the readings at the doctors office (taking them at the same time). But I have taken readings at the drug store and then 5 min later taking it at home. It does seem to give true readings. They has never been any really off readings. No wild swings.
It is very easy to use and comes with good instructions and a nice carrying case. Makes it easy to take on vacation with you. AC adapter makes it where you don’t have to worry about dead batteries.

1. A doctor and myself measured readings done manually and readings done by this little machine, and found either way to be only a couple of numbers different.
My mom loves it, and we found the same model on Amazon for alot cheaper than 100.00. I have had poor experiences with another wrist blood pressure monitor that was 39.99. This little Omron is quick, easy, and correct. Some of it’s features: If you move your arm while you take the blood pressure, it shows an E for error. The batteries last about three motnhs. On this model, there is no battery indicator. It stores over 10 blood pressure readings. It also measures the pulse. There’s no date or time stamp, but I didn’t have good luck with the model with that feature.
To me, every house should have one of these cuffs, not the cheaper priced cuffs that donot work. I’ve used it at home and at work consistently, and I will buy the exact same cuff again. I hope Omron doesn’t stop making them.

2. This is a great product. My stepfather has developed very thin skin as he has gotten older and has to have his BP taken frequently every day. The regular arm cuff has caused quite a bit of damage to his arm. This cuff is around the wrist where the skin is a little thicker, thus saving his skin and not having to worry about infections to his upper arm. Also love the large digits on the screen. He is much happier and more willing to have his BP taken now. Thank you, Omron!

1. As a scale the Omron HBF-500 is excellent. It is consistent, in tests with my wife and I (who are more than 100 pounds different in weight) the scale gave the same weight each of 5 times in a row that we stepped on it. So it is consistent. I am a nurse and weighed myself on our calibrated scales and found that this scale weighed me 0.5 pounds heavier than the hospital one, which can be explained by the glass of water I drank when I got home. So it is both consistent and accurate.
So what about the body fat monitor: As to the accuracy of the monitor I cannot speak. However, it is very consistent, much more consistent than the experience that I have had with the handheld-only monitors from Omron. The scale will calculate your percent body fat & your percent skeletal muscle. It will also give you a reading of your visceral body fat, which is a better indicator of your health risk associated with body fat (visceral body fat is the fat which is inside your body surrounding your organs, which subcutaneous fat is the fat that we all see just under our skin). Using these calculations and the user-defined height, weight, and age data that you enter, it will give you your resting metabolic energy needs for the day to give you an idea of how much you should be eating to lose weight in a healthy manner.

2. I originally ordered a Tanita scale and it stopped working within two weeks. (Amazon, of course, took it back with no problems.) I was so glad when the Omron scale arrived. It costs less than the Tanita but the quality is much higher. The numbers on it are very large and easy to read. Also, it is much easier to place your feet properly than on the Tanita. I can’t wait to try all the features. By the way, I weighed myself over and over and my weight only varied .2 lbs. as promised. Great deal for the money!!!

1. This is a great hand held body fat analyzer. Very accurate, consistent readings and very user friendly. It takes about one minute to set up the personal information that it needs and takes a few seconds to get the body fat readings, very fast.

2. If you’re trying to maintain a healthy weight - or reach one - then a fat monitor can be key. Being 150 pounds and 50% fat is much different than being 150 pounds at 20% fat! If you haven’t used an electronic fat monitor before, here is how they work. You enter your height and weight. This gives the monitor a rough idea of how long an electrical current should take to go in one end of you and out the other. Then you hold two plates in your hands, and it sends a quick electrical message in one hand and out the other. It doesn’t hurt at all - you can’t feel it at all. 1. I got this monitor to keep track of my blood pressure so that I could give the printed reports to my doctor. I have one that I got from Sharper Image that is easy to use but you can’t upload readings to a computer. The one from Sharper Image was also not very accurate when compared to using a regular doctor grade cuff with a stethoscope. The Omron monitor is much easier to use than the Sharper Image one, is easier to ensure the proper position and the uploading of the readings is very easy. I took the Omron monitor to my doctor to have her calibrate it against her measurements and the Omron monitor was nearly identical. Based on that and the printed reports, I was taken off my blood pressure medication!

2. This device is very simple to use. Read the instructions; you have to position your arm in a certain location close to the heart. The unit detects its proximity and starts working. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is because all my machines run Vista and even though the OS recognizes the device, the Omron software does not “see” it as connected. Maybe they will fix this in the next release of the software. For this reason I cannot say anything about the software that came with it.

1. The monitor, which displays the time as well as your heart rate on a watch, works in conjuction with a gizmo that you strap around yourself, just under your chest. (I will tell you, since I was concerned about this, that it’s hardly noticeable once it’s in place…it’s a 12″ or so long piece of plastic with an adjustable elastic strap…not very bulky at all!) The monitor also features a stopwatch and an alarm, so that after you set your minimum & maximum desired heart rates, you can be alerted when you are out of range. The alarm is a “beep-beep” that I can hear over the book on tape I drag along with me. Your heart rate is updated every second or two so you will always know if you need to pick up the pace a bit.
2. This was my first heart rate monitor & I am very pleased with it. Did not require a lot of instruction. The chest strap is comfortable. Occasionally the monitor does not immediately pick up an accurate rate when first put on - but after a few seconds you are ready to go. I will be ordering another for my mother. 1. But recently I saw this “high end” Omron at Walgreen’s and thought I’d give it a spin. Its primary allure: it claims to be so sensitive that you don’t need to wear it on a belt or some other outer wear. Just drop it in your shirt pocket or purse and forget about it (of course, you’ll need to do a 15-minute set-up first).
Guess what? The Omron people aren’t pulling your leg. This is indeed a very sensitive little machine that does what it says it will do. I decided to test it by walking 30-40 minutes with the Omron in my shirt pocket and the Sportline clipped to my belt. At the end of my walk the Omron and Sportline were within 80 steps of each other. Moreover, it was the Omron that gave me the extra steps (a bonus if you consider the amount of time it takes–practically 2 hours–to log the full 10,000 steps).
2. I am certainly no expert on the subject of pedometers, or anything else electronic, truth be told. On the other hand, I have purchased and used several different models, from several different companies and manufacturers, all at different prices and all with different features. I have also researched these things, both here on Amazon and other points of purchase and talking to friends. This Omron is by far the best. It actually functions precisely as it’s makers say it will. I found the set up to be quite easy (even for a electronic dolt like myself) and found the directions to be quite comprehensive. My wife and I both tested this thing and found it to be the most accurate of the several we have used in the past. I did not feel the cost was particularly high when compaired to what you get (I have found you pretty much get what you pay for and if you purchase a pedometer for $5.95, that is just about what you will get). The unit is quite attractive and offers a number of ways to carry and attach it to yourself.
